Who runs the TEF Canada
The TEF Canada is designed by Le français des affaires (CCI Paris Île-de-France) and taken at approved test centres. As with the TCF, registration happens through the centre, not on a single portal.
Registering, step by step
- Check the official list of approved centres on the Le français des affaires website.
- Contact the centre: session dates, seats, required documents (usually valid photo ID).
- Pay the fee set by the centre.
- Receive your convocation.
Exact procedures (documents, deadlines, fees) vary by centre — always confirm directly.
Exam day
All four skills are assessed on the same day:
- Listening — recordings, multiple-choice questions.
- Reading — texts, multiple-choice questions.
- Writing — two tasks within a time limit.
- Speaking — a face-to-face interview with an examiner, in two parts.
The results certificate has a limited validity period: check IRCC's requirements before scheduling the exam within your immigration timeline.
TEF or TCF?
Both are recognised by IRCC for federal immigration, with different NCLC conversion tables. The choice often comes down to centre availability and your affinity with the format — read our comparison article.
Before you register
Take a complete, corrected mock exam. It is the only reliable indicator: if your mock results reach the target, register; if not, there is work left — and registering too early costs you a session.
